It has all the codecs in device manager but no sound icon in the task bar and when I open sounds in control manager it says no device and everything is greyed out.
Did you install the chipset driver first before other relevant drivers after reinstalling XP? Other benefits of registering an account are subscribing to topics and forums, creating a blog, and having no ads shown anywhere on the site.

It seems there is a problem with the onboard. Posted 20 September plhs Thanks for posting back your solution. So I ended up buying a sound card and installing the drivers from the CD.

Can’t remember exactly what options there wad in bios for sound but pretty sure it’s on auto or something like that Posted 18 September –
